The
The Town is policed by the RCMP.
The Town of Pictou Administration Office, located at 40 Water Street, is where the office of the Chief Administrator Officer (CAO) is located. This office is also the point of contact for general inquires, water bills, and taxes, recreation programs and for municipal election information.

Public Works

The Public Works department manages all town streets, sidewalks, water and sewer services. Public Works is also responsible for maintenance of the Jitney trail, town greenspaces, parks and sports fields, and Town buildings. Booking of parks and fields is managed by Pictou Recreation, Tourism & Culture. Snow removal and salting is managed by Public Works as well. The Public Works department also maintains and services all town vehicles. Department staff also provide assistance for Town festivals and events, such as the Lobster Carnival, the Hector Festival and New Scotland Days, and to other Departments for special projects. The Public Works Services Building is located on Brown's Point Road.

Pictou Recreation and Parks
Pictou Recreation and Parks is responsible for the management of the Visitor's Marina, and Fisheries Training Pool. The Department also coordinates recreation programs, such as summer day camps, and youth activity programs, communications include managing the Town website, and coordinating events such as Canada Day, Natal Day, Christmas Light-up, Volunteer Banquet, the Summer Musical Showcase, and occasional special events Tall Ship visits.
The Pictou Recreation & Parks Committee, comprised of community members and two Town Councillors, is the group designated by Town Council to directly oversee the activities of the department. The committee defines results areas for the department in accordance with the Town of Pictou vision and makes recommendations to Council on matters concerning recreation and parks in Pictou.
Pictou Fire Department
Since the early 1800's the Pictou Fire Department has been providing fire protection services to the Town of Pictou, and mutual aid to our neighboring towns. The current Pictou Fire Hall is located at 166 Church St., this hall was build in 1972. The department currently is comprised of 2 companies with a total of 39 members.
The firefighters and officers at the department are committed to continually train and practice in all aspects of fire suppression and rescue. The members practice all the fundamentals so they can efficiently and rapidly extinguish, control or extricate any situation. They are also a big part of the community, assisting with fundraising, food bank drives, MD boot drive and countless other organizations that can use their help.

Police Services
Since 1932 the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has been providing policing services to the Town of Pictou. The Pictou Office of the Pictou County District R.C.M.P. is located at 38 Caladh Ave., in Pictou across from the Hector Heritage Quay. It officially opened Oct. 2, 1998, and houses both a municipal and rural unit, comprised of 11 members and 4 staff. Officers also patrol Pictou Harbour and the Northumberland Strait in the detachment's Boston Whaler.
Community-based policing initiatives over the past number of years have resulted in a changing role and relationship between the district members and Pictou's citizens. Members of the district are active in the traditional policing role and have become more integrated with the community by being involved in various community group, events, and endeavors. 
To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Force, a tartan specific to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police was approved and designed in1998. The rich and symbolic colours of the Tartan are taken from the Force's uniform and badge.
The year 2007 signifies the 75th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police providing policing services to the residents of Nova Scotia and the maritime provinces.
