2010 WINTER PROGRAMS

 

 

Pre-registration and payment for all programs listed on this page are required before the program begins. Men, women, youth, adults and seniors are welcome to all classes.

Tai Chi with Bob Bennett (10 wks)

Gentle flowing movements that reduce the stress of today's busy lifestyles and improve health. It is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Anyone regardless of age or physical ability can practice tai chi.

 

Mondays, beginning January 11th at the Odd Fellows Activity Room

9:00-10:00 am Cost: $50 or $5.50 pay as you go.

 

Gentle Yoga with Raina McDonald (8 wks)

Detailed instruction, great for beginners or anyone looking to strengthen,

release and relax. Breathing techniques, yoga postures, guided meditation.

 

Mondays, beginning January 11th at Pictou Elementary

6:00-7:00 pm                                     Cost: $40

 

Wednesdays, beginning January 13th at Pictou Elementary

6:00-7:00 pm                                     Cost: $40

 

Nia with Nancy Hanlon (8 wks)

Delivers a cardiovascular, whole-body conditioning, for the mind, body,

emotions and spirit. Uses holistic exercise with a combination of nine classic

movement forms from the martial, dance and healing arts. Adaptable and safe

for any fitness level, from stiff beginners to highly fit athletes. More info at

Thursdays, beginning January 14th at Pictou Elementary

7:00-8:00 pm Cost: $40

 

Hip Hop Dance Classes with Katy Hampton (8 wks)

Thursdays beginning January 14th at the Pictou Elementary Gym

6:00-7:00 pm Cost: $30 Ages: 8 and up.

 

Pre-School Movement Class with Katy Hampton (6 wks)

Saturdays beginning January 16th at the Pictou Gym

9:30-10:00 am Cost: $20 Ages: 3-5 yrs.

 

Photography Class with Len Cheverie (8 wks) - Improve your photographic

experience! This course is for anyone wanting to have a better

understanding of the basics of photography.

 

Tuesdays beginning January 12th Location: Pictou Elementary

7:00-9:00 pm Cost is $50

 

Pictou Badminton Club (Drop-in)

Tuesdays, beginning January 12th at the Pictou Elementary Gym

7:00-9:00 pm Cost:$2.50/night. Bring your own racket.

 

Adult Floor Hockey (Drop-In)

Sundays beginning January 10th at the Pictou Gym

2:00-4:00 pm Cost: $2/day

 

Art Classes with Silvia Schaaf (7 wks) -beginning January 19th.

Art class for small and big, discover your own creativity, paint for fun, learn

with courage what colors can do and develop abstract in your pictures.

6-10 yrs-Tuesdays 2:30-3:30 pm $85 Pictou Elementary

Adults-Wednesdays 8:00-9:00 pm $130 United Church Hall

 

Supplies are included with all classes. Pre-registration is required. For

Fun at the Pool during MARCH BREAK

Want to have a fun, exciting and unforgettable

MARCH BREAK? Spend it with us.

Pictou Recreation Aquatics will once again have March Break swims.

Dates: March 15-19, 2010

Hours: 1:00 pm-3:00 pm

Special themed swims everyday for 2 hours; toonie day, penny search, cannon ball

Recreation and day camp programs are offered seasonally. Look for the PRTC program guide "On the Move" in your mailbox in January, June and September, or check the website links below. If you have ideas for programs you would like to take, or would like to offer a program, contact Pictou Recreation, Tourism & Culture.

 

Get Movin' Recreation Kit

A kit bag full of outdoor recreation equipment for entertaining family and friends is available from Pictou Recreation, Tourism & Culture.  The kit includes frisbees, Tug'o'War rope, bat, balls, pylons and more. Reserve by calling PRTC at 485-6057 (a deposit of $20.00 is required, but will be refunded in full when equipment is returned).

Several Nova Scotia organizations offer leadership training and coaching courses.

Funding and Financial Support

For community groups, finding funding in order to enhance programs or subsidize the costs of participation to the users is sometimes a challenge. There are a variety of organizations that offer funding and financial support for recreation activities and sports programs.
