The Ship Hector Foundation

The Ship Hector foundation was founded in 1991 for the sole purpose of raising funds for the construction and maintenance of the Ship Hector. The foundation is an incorporated not-for-profit organization and coordinates many fundraising projects each year.

Ship Hector Company Store

The Ship Hector Company Store on Caladh Avenue, next to the Hector Heritage Quay, houses the main office of the Foundation and retail outlet for Ship Hector merchandise, art and souvenirs. The Ship Hector Company Store has been operating since May 1993.  The store is the only perpetual fundraiser to help generate funds to assist in the completion and ongoing maintenance of the Ship Hector.  The Ship Hector Company Store operates seasonally from the middle of May to the end of October. 

Therefore, employees are seasonal with the manager

working a few days a week throughout the winter months to

assist the board with special projects.  The Ship Hector Company Store puts emphasis on carrying Canadian made products. 

Other Fundraising Projects

Other initiatives include the "Avenue of the Clans", an exhibit of clan crests and tartans on the light standards along Caladh Avenue. The "Adopt A Block" program enabled individuals and organizations to sponsor a block on the ship. Finally, the "Come on Board" fundraising campaign, which was completed in 2005, has aided significantly in the construction of the ship.  Presently, the foundation is organizing other exciting fundraisers and continues to work closely with the Town of Pictou to generate interest in Scottish Heritage sparked by the "Hector" project.
