Message from Mayor Jim Ryan - Condolences to our Pictou Landing First Nations Friends
Message from Mayor Jim Ryan:
Condolences to Our Pictou Landing First Nations Friends
On behalf of the Town of Pictou, I offer most sincere condolences to the Pictou Landing First Nations community on the horrific news coming from British Columbia this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as we join in mourning the precious lives lost and remembering the horrors of our shared history.
The discovery of the 215 bodies of innocent children, who were ripped from their families is a truly heart breaking reminder to all Canadians of this shameful part of our legacy.
True reconciliation with our neighbours and friends will only be possible with a full acknowledgement of the truths of our past and a commitment to doing better in shaping the future.
The Town of Pictou, along with other municipalities throughout the Province of Nova Scotia, will be lowering our flags to half-mast in Remembrance of the lives lost and as an acknowledgement of how we all must do more to ensure our First Nations neighbours and friends are supported during these difficult times, and always.
