Nova Scotia Health Authority - Updates on Services, New Clinics in New Glasgow & Truro
April 3, 2020
A message from Dr. Aaron Smith, Co-Medical Executive Director, Northern Zone and Karen Pyra, Director, Primary Health Care, Northern Zone
Nova Scotia Health Authority has established two new clinics in Truro and New Glasgow for people who do not have a family doctor or nurse practitioner. The clinics will be operational April 6 through June 30, 2020, as a temporary measure to provide care for people who do not have a primary care provider during the pandemic.
The clinics are specifically for people on the Need a Family Practice Registry. Anyone who is currently without a primary care provider can add their name to the list online at https://needafamilypractice.nshealth.ca/.
The majority of the appointments will be by phone; there may also be video appointments. This is in keeping with the direction of physical distancing. The family doctors and nurse practitioners will determine if a patient needs to be seen in-person.
The clinics will provide same day or next day primary medical care for illness, injury, or more urgent health condition that requires prompt treatment, such as:
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Back, joint, or muscle aches and pains
Eye irritation and infections
Asthma (mild to moderate)
Bites and stings
Rashes, hives, and mild allergic reactions
Cuts, scrapes, bruises, and other minor wounds
Other minor conditions or minor injuries
People with flu-like symptoms (fever/sore throat) or a new or worsening cough should complete the COVID-19 self-screen available at https://811.novascotia.ca/ and then call 811 for advice, rather than make an appointment at one of these clinics.
All appointments at the primary care access clinics for unattached people must be arranged by phone. People who do not have a primary care provider and who are on the registry should call:
New Glasgow (serving Pictou County): 902-752-8643 Monday – Friday, 9 am – 12 pm
Please note that this telephone number will be live by 9 am on Monday, April 6
