It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Town of Pictou webpage as a window to our historic waterfront community.
Celebrated as ‘The Birthplace of New Scotland’ and located along the warm waters of the Northumberland Strait we celebrate our rich culture with year round festivals and events that promote our beautiful town as a wonderful place to live, visit and invest.
Incorporated in 1873, Pictou’s proud history of fishing, shipbuilding, education and entrepreneurship, has been the guiding force in the recent development of a new re-vitalization plan for our downtown and waterfront district. With the Hector Heritage Quay, the world class deCoste Centre for Arts and Culture, the Northumberland Fisheries Museum and the McCulloch House Museum and Genealogy Centre as anchor attractions, we continue to grow as a tourist destination by both land and sea.
Our residents take great pride in our community that can claim Pre-Primary to Grade 12 educational opportunities within walking distance and a strong volunteer base supporting a wide range of recreational opportunities for those of all ages.
I encourage you to visit this website often for updated information on news, activities and opportunities.
Sincerely,
James J. Ryan
Mayor
