Town of Pictou Volunteer of the Year

Each year the Town of Pictou calls for nominations from the community for a Volunteer of the Year. This award is given to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution in the Town of Pictou. Learn more.

There are a multitude of opportunities to volunteer in the Town of Pictou. Whether you are interested in sports, events, gardening, or history there is something for you. Volunteering gives you an opportunity to get involved in your community, to make new friends, to learn new skills, and gain experience for school and work.

Town Committees & Advisory Boards

The Town of Pictou has several committees and advisory boards with which volunteers may become involved. Vacancies on these committees arise and are publicly advertised when available.

Committee Vacancies

Currently there are several vacancies on the following committees:

Business Advisory Committee
The Committee advises Council on the development and management of an implementation strategy for Pictou's waterfront/downtown, rotary/highway district and other business initiatives. It also provides advice and guidance on business matters. 

Parks and Recreation Committee
The Committee operates pursuant to the Pictou Recreation and Parks Committee Policy. The major focus areas include planning and organizing special community events and serving as an advisory group to Council on recreation service delivery.

Accessibility Advisory Committee
This Committee provides advice to Council on identifying, preventing and eliminating barriers to people with disabilities in municipal programs, services, initiatives and facilities. It plays a pivotal role to help the Town of Pictou become a more accessible community that complies with Nova Scotia’s Accessibility Act (2017). There is currently one vacancy that must be filled with a citizen who has a disability or represents an organization that is a service provider.
